Wow! Are There Really 40 Tennis Courts at the University of Texas?

Okay, so I stumble across what I believe to be Whitaker Fields (on the Web) at the University of Texas and see that they have 40 tennis courts there.

Is this true?  After doing some research, I don’t believe I found any other facility, except for the one being built in Rome, Ga, which will or does have 60 courts, or the Mobile Tennis Center in Alabama, which has 60 courts.  Any one of these is more than the number of courts in Flushing Meadows at The Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Ten and Under Tennis

This is great stuff.  I didn’t come out of the womb swinging a racket, but I didn’t wait until my teens to begin playing either.

I wasn’t a big kid and then again, that’s exactly what I am now, but I don’t remember the equipment or the court being overwhelming.  I didn’t know better.  My parents and many others had no option, short of remanufacturing rackets and balls and building us our own special court.  None of that was going to happen, not even in the best of times.
