It’s a pretty day, temperature is in the 70’s, but the winds are steady and then gusty at times.
We arrive at the Mobile Tennis Center which is tucked away in a complex which includes a performing arts theatre, an art museum and other community services. A pond or lake is visible from most any view.
The tennis center, with 60 courts is quiet impressive. The courts and courtside facilities are busy, yet the event seems to be well organized.
The team, a wild card entry, takes to court and they weren’t waxed by any means, but were only able to take one out of three matches from their competitors from Alabama.
Heads were hung low for awhile, but the remaining teammates pulled the others together and all were soon looking forward to tomorrow’s matches.
The day, as for tennis, was done and some headed back to the hotel, while others went shopping and a few stopped by a nail salon for some pampering.
I had to partake - no, not any polish, glaze or any of that stuff for me, just some maintenance. Well, this was no normal pedicure and manicure. This was all that plus a foot and hand massage, some reflexology and a massage chair that revivals some personal massages I have received.
As we still had not received the accommodations we had planned for, which would have had us at a better hotel with all rooms next to one another, it seemed as if every event required 30 phone calls and led to somewhat organized chaos.
Eventually, we (in four different vehicles, all departing at different times) are heading to a seafood restaurant which is a favorite of the team captain.
It is an elevated building sitting on a causeway spanning from Alabama to Florida, overlooking Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The staff was wonderful and the food was great.
Afterward we headed back to home base for much late night conversation and more consumption of adult beverages for most.
Minus the loss, it was a great day - we move on.
